Liberty High football players Tyus Toomalatai, Kaimi Batoon, Calvin Tubbs, and Nick Tapuala before the 2015 Season.

For years in Nevada high school football, it has been Bishop Gorman, and the rest of the teams.

Welcome the Liberty Patriots to the club, as they have similarly distanced themselves from the rest of the pack.

That was on full display Friday night, when they hung 54 points on the Valley Vikings, in the first quarter.

“I have felt this is the best team that we’ve ever had here since before the season even started,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “We have definitely improved a lot, and we have everyone playing one side of the ball. I’ve never had that kind of depth before and it’s really showing.”

After a running clock was quickly implemented, Liberty defeated Valley 74-8 to improve to 6-1 this year.

Sophomore quarterback Kenyon Oblad was a perfect 10-of-10 for 320 yards and six touchdowns on the night.

“He did a great job,” Muraco said. “He was relaxed and made good throws. The receivers did a lot of the work for him, but he made the right reads.”

Bryan Roland found the end zone on both of his receptions, one from 40 yards out and the other from 45.

Darion Acohido led the Patriots with three catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, and superstar running back Ethan Dedeaux scored on a 2-yard touchdown reception from Oblad.

Now Liberty travels to Silverado next week before closing the season out against Las Vegas High at home.

It’s a tough stretch to end the regular season, but the Patriots have proven to be too much for in-state opponents to this point.
