Nevadans expected to spend $103M on Halloween this year

Nevadans are expected to spend $103 million getting in the Halloween spirit this year.

The Retail Association of Nevada projects $38 million in spending on costumes, including about $5 million to dress up pets.

A survey administered by the group found the most popular adult costumes this year are witches, animals and "Batman" characters. For kids, princess and "Batman" outfits top the list.

The survey found pets are most likely to dress up like pumpkins, hot dogs or "Batman" characters.

Candy is expected to be the second-biggest driver behind the seasonal spending. Nevadans are expected to shell out more than $32 million on sweets, and $28 million on decorations.

The association says 68 percent of consumers say they plan to hand out candy, while 44 percent plan to dress up.
