Las Vegas taekwondo coach to serve 4 years for sexually abusing girls

LOS ANGELES — A taekwondo instructor from Las Vegas has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually abusing two teenage students when he accompanied them to California for tournaments.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge also ordered 50-year-old Marc Scott Gitelman to register as a lifetime sex offender on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Gitelman sexually assaulted two girls, ages 15 and 16, when they were in Los Angeles County in 2010 and 2011. At the time, Gitelman had his own school and taught at community centers and at UNLV.

His accusers filed a complaint about the sexual abuse with USA Taekwondo, the national governing body for the sport, and notified authorities in 2014.

A jury found Gitelman guilty of three sex-related charges on Sept. 8.
