Man wounded in early morning shooting in west valley

A man was in critical condition after a shooting in the west valley early Wednesday morning, according to Metro Police.

Officers responded about 1:30 a.m. to the 2200 block of North Torrey Pines Drive, near the intersection of Smoke Ranch Road, where they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

He was taken to University Medical Center, police said.

The victim had been walking north on Torrey Pines when he was approached by four men, and one of them shot him, police said.

The men then left eastward through an apartment complex, police said.

Police described the suspect as a clean-shaven black man in a red University of Southern California sweater.
