Students moved after air conditioning goes out at school

Updated Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 | 3:01 p.m.

Students at a southeast valley junior high school were bused to a nearby high school after the air conditioning went out at their school today, according to the Clark County School District.

Air conditioning at Cannon Junior High School, 5850 Euclid St., went out earlier today, and students were taken to Del Sol High School, less than a mile away, according to a statement from the district. Information about what time the cooling system went out was not immediately available.

Today’s high temperature was expected to hit nearly 100 degrees.

Students who take the bus will be picked up at Del Sol and dropped off at their normal times, the statement said. Students who walk or bike to school will be taken back to Cannon by bus and dismissed there at the regular time, the district said. School normally lets out at 3:11 p.m.

Parents received automated calls about the incident. A total of 860 students were enrolled at the school last year.

It was not immediately clear when the air conditioning would be restored, but Friday is a professional development day, meaning students will not have class, School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said.
