Las Vegas 51s down Tacoma, remain in hunt for division title

The Las Vegas 51s kept themselves in the hunt for a division title Friday night, bouncing back from a thrashing on Thursday for a 9-4 victory over Tacoma.

The win, coupled with a 6-5 loss by the El Paso Chihuahuas at Reno, gives the 51s a half-game lead in the Pacific Southern division of the Pacific Coast League heading into tonight’s games. Las Vegas lost the division lead and dropped a four-game series on Thursday in a 10-1 home loss to El Paso at Cashman Field. But it now takes a half-game lead into its final three games of the regular season thanks to the Chihuahuas’ loss.

El Paso (75-65) has four games and would win the title if teams tied, thanks to a tiebreaker based on head-to-head results during the season.

Las Vegas (76-65) faces Tacoma again at 7:05 p.m. today at Cashman Field. The Chihuahuas play Reno in a doubleheader.
