The president of the Fremont Street Experience will step down at the end of the month, the organization announced today.

Jeff Victor has been president and general manager of the organization since 2006; earlier this year, he added the position of chairman to his title. In announcing his departure, he said he would move on to “new challenges” and indicated that he plans to remain involved in downtown Las Vegas in some capacity.

The Fremont Street Experience is a private organization that runs the five-block pedestrian mall on Fremont Street between Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard. Its board includes representatives from the eight downtown casinos that are members of the organization: Binion’s, California, the D, Four Queens, Fremont, Golden Gate, Golden Nugget and Main Street Station.

“As president of this organization, I have had the opportunity to be creative in ways I never would have imagined,” Victor said in a statement. “The Fremont Street Experience staff is extremely competent and we have thoroughly enjoyed discovering new ways to manage, promote and celebrate this unique venue together. We have many, many accomplishments to be proud of and I am confident they will continue to do great work in the years to come.”

Among the accomplishments Victor pointed to were “rebranding and repositioning the venue,” expanding the number of permanent stages on the pedestrian mall, launching “reoccurring special events” and the creation of the SlotZilla zip line attraction, which recently celebrated its first anniversary. Victor said the zip line has outpaced ridership and revenue expectations.

Victor did not specify what his next professional step will be, but the statement alluded to a “new opportunity” that will keep him connected to downtown.

“I love Las Vegas, and especially downtown where Las Vegas began. Downtown, I believe, is the heart and soul of our community,” he said in the statement. “This is where I have devoted the past decade of my life, and I look forward to continuing to play a role in the future growth and development of downtown.”

The Fremont Street Experience has retained Wurster Partners Ltd. to help it with the process of finding a new top executive.
