A person was shot this afternoon near a southeast valley elementary school, according to Metro Police.
Police responded about 1:20 p.m. to the 5500 block of Boulder Highway, near East Tropicana Avenue, to a call of a possible shooting, Officer Laura Meltzer said.
The adult victim was located at a nearby Albertsons grocery store with a gunshot wound and taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Meltzer said.
Police could not immediately provide the gender of the victim or the extent of injuries.
The victim told police the shooting happened near Whitney Elementary School, less than a mile away at 5005 Keenan Avenue, Meltzer said.
Police believe a vehicle with more than one person inside may have been involved in the shooting, she said.
No description of the vehicle was immediately available.
The school was not locked down, Clark County School District Police Capt. Ken Young said.
