CARSON CITY — The chairman of the Nevada State Republican Party is working as a senior deputy treasurer in the Nevada State Treasurer's Office.

State personnel records confirmed Michael J. McDonald was hired July 20 and receives about $95,000 annually. He's responsible for community outreach activities.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported earlier this month that McDonald is being sued for his alleged involvement with a $2.2 million loan from a children's charity that went into default.

Republican State Treasurer Dan Schwartz said his office looked into the allegations and believes they're false.

Agency officials say McDonald's hire did not have to go through a competitive application process because it's not considered classified.

Political journalist Jon Ralston highlighted the hire on Wednesday. An announcement was not posted on the treasurer's website as of Wednesday.
