Owner of rural Nevada casino to relinquish license

CARSON CITY — The owner of a rural Nevada casino has agreed to relinquish his state license after the Nevada Gaming Control Board outlined alleged problems with the rewards club and cash requirements.

Harold Holder, who formerly owned Sharkey’s in Gardnerville and who is still owner of the Sundance Casino in Winnemucca, also will pay a fine of $12,029, according to an agreement between the Holder and the board.

Sharkey’s has reopened under new ownership and is not named in the complaint.

Holder will be allowed to operate the Sundance until Oct.29, when he will surrender his license for that casino.

The agreement, however, allows the Winnemucca casino to continue operations until Feb. 29, 2016, if Holder finds a buyer who applies for a state license.

Both casinos operated by Holder had a rewards club in which players accumulated points worth cash for their play. In September 2014, the system went down and the players’ accumulated points were lost, according to board documents.

The casinos also was accused of failing to have the required bankroll on hand.
