Las Vegas woman allegedly shot, killed by boyfriend ID’d

A woman who was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend Sept. 2 in an apartment near East Owens and Eastern avenues has been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office.

Kristan Elizabeth Smith, 51, and 24-year-old Johnny Medrano were arguing in the apartment in the 100 block of North 21st Street when he reportedly shot her and fled.

Officers found Medrano at a nearby residence, and he was booked at the Clark County Detention Center, according to Metro Police. He was arrested on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Smith’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, and her death was ruled a homicide. This is the 81st suspected homicide investigated by Metro Police in 2015.
