A Las Vegas man who died after the SUV he was riding in hit a support column at the Las Vegas Convention Center this month has been identified as 58-year-old Marcus Alonzo Hayes, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Hayes died of blunt-force chest trauma in the crash, which happened about 10 p.m. Sept. 11 near Convention Center Drive and Paradise Road, according to the Coroner's Office and Metro Police.

The 21-year-old driver was traveling west at a high speed on Convention Center when the vehicle veered onto the sidewalk and hit the column, police said.

The driver and a 21-year-old front-seat passenger suffered serious injuries, and all three occupants of the SUV were taken to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, where Hayes was pronounced dead, police said.

The front-seat passenger told police the driver was involved in a road rage-type incident before the crash, police said.
