Man to get new trial in 2006 Las Vegas slaying

CARSON CITY — A man found guilty of robbing and shooting a pimp 19 times in Las Vegas in 2006 is going to get a new trial, according to Nevada Supreme Court records.

The court on Tuesday overturned the first-degree murder conviction of K.C. Keith Coulter, who was sentenced to 40 to 100 years in prison in the slaying of Joseph Smalley in February 2006.

A co-defendant is also appealing his conviction in the case.

The court found there were “irregular events” that occurred before and during the first trial and that the trial of the two defendants should have been separated.
