Las Vegas area schools’ 10-year plan adds 37 campuses

School trustees in Las Vegas have adopted a $4.1 billion plan to build 37 new schools over the next 10 years.

That'll push the number of campuses in the nation's fifth-largest school district over 400.

Clark County School District spokeswoman Michelle Booth says school board members on Thursday unanimously approved the goal of building 35 new elementary schools and two new high schools by 2026.

That's in addition to four new and two renovated schools scheduled to open in August 2017.

Another eight new schools are slated to open in August 2018.

The district currently serves more than 320,000 students at 357 campuses.

State lawmakers and Gov. Brian Sandoval approved plans this year to alleviate crowding that has many elementary schools using portable classrooms and year-round schedules.
