10 displaced after truck hits Las Vegas home, igniting fire

Ten people were left homeless Saturday after a pickup crashed into a house and caught fire, heavily damaging the home, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Also according to Fire & Rescue:

At 2:27 p.m., dispatchers received several reports of a blaze in the 2000 block of Jeanne Drive. Smoke was coming from the pickup’s engine compartment when firefighters arrived, and they found heavy flames in the wood-frame/stucco house’s attic. Firefighters withdrew from the home as the fire increased in intensity and used water to control the blaze.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, and investigators have ruled the cause accidental. People had been working on the truck in the front yard, and it went into gear and smashed into the house, they said.

Damage was estimated at $135,000. The American Red Cross was helping the people displaced.

One firefighter was hospitalized amid the extreme heat.
