Henderson Fire rescues lost hiker, dog amid heat in Sloan Canyon area

A hiker and a dog were treated for heat stress and dehydration after they were rescued today in the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, south of Democracy Drive, according to the Henderson Fire Department.

Also according to the Fire Department:

The woman, 28, had been hiking with her Rottweiler/boxer/mastiff mix-breed dog for several hours when it suffered lacerated paws. She tried to carry the 75-pound dog to her car but became lost and fatigued, then called 9-1-1 about 2 p.m.

The woman was not on a marked trail and couldn’t give her specific location. Firefighters searched for her using an off-road vehicle, as well as on foot, and found her walking in a wash about a half-mile from the trail. The dog was found farther up the wash.
