Las Vegas Sun's Ray Brewer and Case Keefer return for their weekly chat about high school football, which includes the unfortunate situation that took place during the Bone Game and Arbor View's climb back up the ranks.

Green Valley High senior wide receiver Isiah Macklin was a relative unknown this summer on the college recruiting trail.

But at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds he passes the eye test. And after excelling at a few camps, including UNLV’s 7 on 7 passing tournament last June, Macklin started attracting attention.

First, UNLV offered a scholarship. A few days later, San Diego State followed.

Macklin picked the Aztecs today over UNLV, joining a long list of locals in recent years to commit to San Diego State. There are five from Southern Nevada on the San Diego State roster, including running back Donnel Pumphrey (Canyon Springs) who is one of the best players in the Mountain West.

The Las Vegas to San Diego State connection won’t end anytime soon.

San Diego State’s lead recruiter in Las Vegas is Jeff Horton, the former UNLV coach. Hunkie Cooper, the former Canyon Springs coach, is the first-year Aztecs wide receiver coach.

Macklin in 2014 had 23 receptions for 319 yards and three touchdowns. In four games this fall, he has nine catches for 124 yards and a touchdown.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding until an athlete signs a letter of intent. National signing day is on the first Wednesday in February.

He announced his commitment on Twitter.
