Police seek 2 people after fatal Wal-Mart parking lot beating

Metro Police are searching for a man and woman they described as persons of interest in connection with the fatal beating of a 72-year-old man Wednesday in a central valley Wal-Mart parking lot.

James Northcott, whose place of residence was not available, died Monday at Spring Valley Hospital, less than a week after the beating, according to police and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Northcott was in a vehicle about 3 p.m. when he got into a dispute with another motorist outside the Wal-Mart at 4505 W. Charleston Blvd., near Decatur Boulevard. A person in the other vehicle got out and beat Northcott before fleeing, police said.

Northcott went back to the hotel where he was staying and was later taken to the hospital, police said.

Police released descriptions of two people of interest. They did not say how they might be connected to the case.

The first person is a black man in his 20s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 160 pounds, police said. He was wearing a gray baseball cap, white T-shirt, blue shorts, white socks and blue Nike sandals.

The second person — a short female of unknown race — was last seen wearing a black shirt and denim shorts, police said.

The pair was seen in a 2003 to 2006 silver, four-door Hyundai Elantra with no tint and stock rims, according to police.
