Republican announces bid for open Las Vegas Assembly seat

CARSON CITY — A retired law enforcement officer says he'll be running for the Assembly seat being vacated by Republican Victoria Seaman.

Republican Martin "Marty" Hagans told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he'll seek the Assembly District 34 seat in northwestern Las Vegas. Seaman's running for state Senate.

Hagans says he's a fiscal conservative who would have voted against Gov. Brian Sandoval's $1.1 billion tax package. He said he also wants more resources for veterans and wants to audit spending at Nevada's schools to find solutions for their poor performance.

The 57-year-old Hagans said he's lived in Nevada for most of the last 12 years. He worked with the California governor's security detail before working in private security for the Colosseum at Caesars Palace and the World Market Center in Las Vegas.
