Three Clark County schools named among nation’s best

Three Clark County schools have been named among the best in the country by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Clark County School District announced this morning that Sig Rogich Middle School, Glen Taylor Elementary and Sue Morrow Elementary were among 335 national public schools that received the federal government’s Blue Ribbon School status this year. Rogich is near Summerlin, and the two elementary schools are in Henderson.

They were the only Nevada schools recognized this year.

The program was created in 1982 to recognize schools with high student academic achievement and those that have made strides in reducing student achievement gaps.

“It is truly an honor to have three of our schools selected among the best in the nation,” Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky said in a statement. “This Blue Ribbon School designation speaks to the amazing work and dedication of our teachers, school staff, students and their parents.”

A number of Clark County schools have been honored with the designation in the past, including Walter Bracken Elementary and Advanced Technologies Academy, but this is the first time the district has had three schools honored in a single year.

The winners will be recognized at ceremonies Nov. 9 and 10 in Washington, D.C.
