Storage Facility Fire

A fire that damaged 37 vehicles at a northwest valley storage facility Saturday afternoon caused an estimated $2.5 million in damage but no injuries.

According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue:

Fire crews received a call from the driver of a motorhome about 2:05 p.m. reporting that his recreational vehicle caught fire after he started it at Storage Summerlin, 7441 W. Lake Mead Blvd., east of Buffalo Drive. The man said he and an employee used a fire extinguisher, but the fire spread.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the RV on fire underneath a carport-type structure. About 50 other vehicles — including more motor homes, U-Haul trailers, boats, pickup trucks and other camping vehicles — were also parked under the structure.

Fire crews said the fire was “extremely intense,” and additional units were requested. Propane, plastics, fuels and tires accelerated the fire, which caused heavy smoke to billow from the location. It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The incident was deemed accidental.

West Lake Mead Boulevard was closed eastbound for several hours due to the fire.
