Police: Man accused of scamming elderly veteran out of almost $100,000

A Las Vegas man is accused of scamming a 95-year-old military veteran out of nearly $100,000 after gaining her trust performing landscaping jobs, according to Henderson Police.

Thomas Fico, 59, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Henderson Detention Center on multiple counts of theft, exploitation of an older/vulnerable person and forgery, police said.

Over a six month period, Fico fraudulently obtained money by writing checks from the woman’s checking account and depositing them into his personal accounts, police said.

He also coerced her into making him the executor of her last will and testament, police said. She had planned to leave her estate to military organizations assisting with disabled veterans, police said.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Henderson Police at 702-267-5000 or 311, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com. Tips directly leading to a felony arrest or indictment processed through Crime Stoppers may result in a cash reward.
