Three injured, one critically, when car runs red light at Rainbow, Vegas Drive

A man was hospitalized with critical injuries Saturday evening after running a red light and crashing into another car that was occupied by two teenagers.

Metro Police responded just after 11 p.m. to the intersection of North Rainbow Boulevard and West Vegas Drive.

Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicates that a 1997 Toyota Tercel driven by a 26-year-old man was traveling east on Vegas Drive when it entered the intersection at Rainbow Boulevard, disregarding a red traffic signal, police said.

The Toyota struck the front of a 2016 Kia Soul that was traveling south on Rainbow Boulevard, police said. The Kia overturned onto the passenger side before both vehicles left the roadway at the southeast corner of the intersection.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries.

The driver of the Kia, a 17-year-old boy, and a 17-year-old female passenger received minor injuries from the crash.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
