Newtown teacher faces gun-charge arraignment

DANBURY, Conn. — A Newtown teacher who was arrested on a weapon possession charge at the town's middle school is due to be arraigned.

Forty-six-year-old Jason Adams faces arraignment Wednesday in Danbury Superior Court.

The teacher at Newtown Middle School was arrested on April 6 after police say he was seen with the pistol and detained by school security. Police say he had a valid pistol permit, but Connecticut state law prohibits possession of firearms on school grounds.

Adams was placed on administrative leave. He has not responded to messages left at his home.

A gunman shot and killed 20 children and six educators inside a Newtown elementary school on Dec. 14, 2012.
