One person was killed and two injured when a semitrailer broke loose from its tractor, crashing into a pickup truck and a tavern, according to Metro Police.

The trailer crashed into Buck’s Tavern, 1204 North Nellis Blvd., about 10:50 a.m., and two people were trapped in the pickup truck, Officer Larry Hadfield said.

One person was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition and later pronounced dead, police said.

The intersection of Nellis and Washington Avenue was shut down and will remain closed for most of the afternoon, Hadfield said. NV Energy was responding to exposed wires at the intersection, he said.
