Seven dogs died at some point during a Metro Police raid on a rooster-fighting ring they broke up Wednesday in the east valley.

The dogs were inside one of the family's "holding structures," Metro Officer Jesse Roybal said. It wasn't immediately clear if the structure was a kennel, he said.

Roybal said the dogs were alive at some point during the animal-rescue operation but later died.

Further details were not immediately available, he said.

Metro Police arrested two brothers and boxed, caged and seized about 550 roosters and hens from their home in the 4700 block of Stanley Avenue, near Nellis Boulevard and Owens Avenue.

The men — Silvester Salgado Gayton, 46, and Javier Salgado, 44 — were each booked on two counts of owning, training, promoting and selling an animal to fight, police said. Additional charges may be forthcoming, Officer Rogert Sigal said.
