Former District Court Judge Mike Griffin dies at 72

CARSON CITY — Retired District Court Judge Mike Griffin of Carson City has died at a Reno hospital at the age of 72.

Griffin served 28 years on the bench and retired in 2007.

He had been ill for several years and suffered a major heart attack before his death Wednesday.

He graduated from Carson High School, the University of Nevada, Reno, where he played basketball, and received his law degree from the University of San Francisco. He served with the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps in Korea.

After he left the Army, he worked in the state Public Defender’s Office before he was elected as a District Court judge.

After his retirement, he joined a Reno law firm.

He was married to his wife, Jill, for 45 years. Other survivors include his sons, John and Matthew, and a daughter, Gina Solari.

Funeral services are pending.
