Nevada taxable sale up 3 percent in October

CARSON CITY — Taxable sales, one indicator of the Nevada economy, rose to $4.4 billion in October, a gain of 3 percent from the same time a year ago.

Construction sales were up 7.5 percent, and car sales increased by 5.6 percent.

The state Department of Taxation reported that 13 of 17 counties posted gains in taxable sales, led by Storey County with an increase of 145.9 percent, due mainly to the construction of a large Tesla battery plant.

Four counties was declines, with sales off 32 percent in Churchill County.

Taxable sales increased by 2.8 percent in Clark County, where building supply purchases were up 13 percent, car sales were up by 4.6 percent and clothing sales were up 2.6 percent.

Furniture sales fell by 13 percent in Clark County, and electronics and appliance sales dropped by 12.9 percent.

Bars and restaurants in Clark County posted a minor gain of 0.9 percent, while general merchandise sales were up 2.6 percent.

Taxable sales in Washoe County rose 1.6 percent, and Carson City posted a 7.1 percent increase.
