In Nevada, 88,145 insured through Obamacare

CARSON CITY — A record 88,145 Nevadans enrolled for coverage through the state’s health insurance exchange last year, the state reported today.

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange said Nevada was one of the top five states in enrollment growth during 2015. But there are still 124,200 eligible Nevadans without health insurance, officials said.

“This year’s strong enrollment demonstrates that Nevadans understand that health insurance isn’t simply an expense but financial protection for themselves and their families,” said Bruce Gilbert, executive director of the exchange.

The federal Department of Health and Human Services said Thursday nearly 13 million people nationwide signed up for coverage under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, ahead of the Jan. 31 enrollment deadline.
