Steve Canavero named Nevada superintendent of public instruction

CARSON CITY — Steve Canavero, who has been interim state superintendent of public instruction since September, has been named to the permanent position.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said today that Canavero was named to the post after the completion of interviews.

Canavero was deputy superintendent at the state Department of Education until he was promoted to temporarily replace Dale Erquiaga, who moved to the governor’s office.

Canavero served as the first director of the state Public Charter School Authority and has worked as a public school teacher and principal.

His salary will be $127,721.
