State OKs $49,000 to protect presidential candidates

CARSON CITY — The Legislative Interim Finance Committee today released $49,440 from its emergency fund to help protect four presidential candidates campaigning in Nevada.

James Wright, director of the Department of Public Safety, said the Nevada Highway Patrol will aid U.S. Secret Service agents protecting Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and Republicans Donald Trump and Ben Carson.

Other candidates who want state protection would have to reimburse the Highway Patrol.
