North Las Vegas man found shot inside car identified

A man who was found dead inside of a vehicle near Rancho and Vegas drives Friday evening has been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Leon Max Velasquez, 21, of North Las Vegas, died of gunshot wounds to the head and torso, the coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police were called about 11:45 p.m. to the 1900 block of Cindysue Street to investigate a shooting in front of a residence. Upon arrival, officers found Velasquez dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Metro Police said.

Metro detectives determined that Velasquez was shot numerous times from inside the vehicle.

The shooter, described as a black man between ages 18 to 20, who was wearing a red hoodie, tan shorts and braided hair, fled the scene, police said. As of Saturday afternoon, no one was in custody and the motive was unknown.
