Burning Man attendees spend $2,000 each in Nevada desert

RENO — Burning Man festivalgoers spent on average about $2,000 per person at the counterculture art party last year.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that according to the Black Rock City census, released Friday, people spent about $600 in Nevada, most of which goes to food. That figure is about $20 less per person than figures in the 2014 numbers.

Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada CEO Mike Kazmierski says actual spending is less important than getting high-powered people into the area, which is helping rebrand the region. About 80,000 people came for the weeklong celebration in the Black Rock Desert 120 miles north of Reno in 2015.

The Black Roc census is a survey conducted at or after Burning Man that gathers data on the festival.
