Police: Driver in custody after string of hit-and-run wrecks

A driver was in custody today after Metro Police say she hit multiple vehicles, sending at least one person to the hospital, in a series of hit-and-run crashes.

Police were called about 12:15 p.m. to West Bonanza Road and North Main Street, where a white pickup truck had hit a light pole and knocked it down before driving away, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

About 20 minutes later, officers were called to the intersection of North Pecos Road and Stewart Avenue, about three miles away, where a pickup hit a vehicle, she said. No injuries were reported.

Police were then called about 12:40 p.m. to South Lamb Boulevard and East Sahara Avenue, where a truck hit multiple vehicles, Meltzer said.

One person was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, but no additional information was available about the patient, she said.

Witnesses followed the truck into a parking lot near Fremont Street and East St. Louis Avenue, where the female driver was taken into custody, Meltzer said. Further information about the driver was not immediately available.

Travel is expected to be impacted, especially near Lamb and Sahara, Meltzer said.
