Henderson Fire Chief Steven R. Goble retires today after 25 years with the department.
Goble has accepted a position in the private sector, and Deputy Chief Matthew Morris will take over as chief as of 5:30 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.
Morris has been with the department for 20 years.
Goble, selected to lead the Henderson Fire Department in September 2011, began as a firefighter with the department and has been a Southern Nevada resident since 1966, according to the city’s website.
“He will be missed for his compassion, humility and most of all, his infectious laugh,” the department said in a Facebook post today.
In a traditional tribute to the departing chief, each fire station honored Goble with parting words over the department scanner, and a bell was rung 25 times, once for each year of service, Richards said.
