Nevada unemployment inches down to 6.4 percent in December

CARSON CITY — The jobless rate in Nevada i Nevada unemployment inches down to 6.4 percent in December nched down to 6.4 percent in December from 6.5 percent the previous month, the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported today.

The national jobless rate is 5 percent.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said there has been five years of steady job growth in Nevada. He said the state has diversified its economy and today’s report is another sign Nevada is moving in the right direction.

Of 175,000 jobs lost during the recession, 140,000 have been replaced, he said.

Department Economist Bill Anderson said, “Through the first half of 2015, the most recent period for which reliable comparisons can be made, our state had the third strongest job-growth rate in the nation.”
