Court denies new penalty hearing for man serving life sentence

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court today denied the petition of Las Vegas killer Doneale L. Feazell, who argued his attorney at his second penalty hearing was ineffective and sought a new hearing.

The court held the attorney was not deficient in representing Feazell at his District Court penalty hearing.

Feazell was convicted of the December 1992 shooting death of Derrick Hamilton in his car. He was originally sentenced to death.

The Supreme Court in 2002 vacated the death penalty sentence and ordered a new hearing.

Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty at the second hearing in 2009. But a jury deadlocked over whether Feazell should receive life in prison with or without parole, according to court documents.

District Court Judge Jackie Glass sentenced Feazell to consecutive life terms without parole.
