Update: Storm affects more McCarran flights

Updated Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 | 1:22 p.m.

Although the snowstorm that hit South and Mid-Atlantic has subsided, the effect is still being felt at McCarran International Airport.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, McCarran's website showed that 12 flights to destinations such as Washington Dulles and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport had been canceled. The website showed three cancellations for East Coast flights Monday.

“If your aircraft is coming from that side of the country, it’s going to impact your travel,” McCarran spokeswoman Christine Cruz said Saturday.

Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the most updated flight information.

“The airlines do such an excellent job of communicating with customers and letting them know in advance that weather conditions could cause delays,” she said, adding that some airlines are offering change waivers to allow travelers to adjust their flights for free.

With several trade shows in town, including the Adult Entertainment Expo, SHOT Show and the International Builders Show, McCarran is also coping with what Cruz called “super convention week.”

“So then Mother Nature just threw in a storm on top of that,” she said. “We want to get everyone where they need to go, but we ask that everyone pack their patience. We need to do it safely.”

McCarran expects full flights in coming days as travelers who were delayed head home, Cruz added.
