Police: 1 dead, 1 wounded in suspected gang-related shooting

One man was killed and another critically wounded in a shooting Wednesday night at a bus stop in the southeast valley, according to Metro Police.

Police don’t know what instigated the shooting, but it is believed to be gang related, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. No arrests have been made.

The incident happened about 11:45 p.m. when two men got into an argument with four males at a bus stop near Eastern and Tropicana avenues and shots were fired from the larger group, McGrath said.

The surviving victim reported the young men in the other group — thought to be between about 17 and 24 years old — were shouting the name of a gang, McGrath said.

The victims, both in their 30s, were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead and the other underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds to his back, McGrath said.

Witnesses reported seeing people flee behind buildings and into a neighborhood southwest of the bus stop after the shooting, McGrath said. Police are seeking to review security footage from nearby businesses, he said.

Eastern Avenue was shut down for about three hours while police investigated.
