Man, 20, dies in single-car crash

A 20-year-old man died early today in a single-car crash in the east valley, according to Metro Police.

About 1:40 a.m., the man was driving a 2003 Mazda Protege west on Owens Avenue, approaching Pecos Road, when he failed to follow the right turn lane and drove onto a raised traffic island, hitting a traffic signal post and a power pole, police said.

The driver was extricated from the car by Las Vegas firefighters and taken to University Medical Center, where he died, police said. His name was not released.

The crash remains under investigation. It resulted in the 10th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
