A ferocious garage fire was stopped by firefighters before spreading farther into a two-story Henderson home this morning, after a father whisked his two young children to safety.
The blaze, in the 1100 block of Cottonwood Ranch Court, near Sandy Ridge Avenue and Summit Grove Drive, erupted about 5:45 a.m. and burned so hot it heavily damaged a vehicle parked in the driveway. It took about two dozen firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The father, who declined to identify himself, was treated at the scene by paramedics for burns to his feet after he said he instinctively ran barefoot into the garage to try to extinguish the fire. There were no other injuries.
Henderson Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Satterlee said the cause of the fire wasn’t yet known, and the rest of the house sustained mostly smoke damage.
