Democratic committee goes after House Republicans in new ads

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced today it is launching two new ads targeting House Republicans over the way they have responded to GOP presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump and some of his more controversial remarks.

The announcement comes as Trump is slated to meet with House and Senate Republicans in Washington today, just a week and a half before the party’s convention kicks off in Cleveland.

The seven-figure buy will air nationally on cable networks, including CNN and MSNBC, and online starting Monday and running through the convention.

One of the ads characterizes Trump as “the school bully” and House Republicans as his sidekicks.

“As Donald Trump runs a campaign pitting Americans against each other and pushing ideas that threaten our country’s security, Republicans in Congress are just standing by him,” the narrator says. “But shouldn’t they really be standing up to the bully?”

The second ad asks viewers, “If your Republican representative supports Trump, should they be representing you?”

Democrats have already sought to define Republican Rep. Cresent Hardy, who is running for re-election in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District, and businessman Danny Tarkanian, who is seeking election to the state’s 3rd District, by their support for Trump this election cycle.

Hardy has said that he will support Trump as the party’s nominee, but criticized some of the New York businessman’s rhetoric. Last month, he called Trump’s comments about the Mexican heritage of Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing the Trump University lawsuit, “completely inappropriate.”

Tarkanian has been more public in his support for Trump, appearing and speaking at Trump’s most recent rally in Las Vegas.
