Man killed in west-valley crash may have been under influence

Updated Sunday, July 17, 2016 | 1:20 p.m.

Alcohol might have contributed to a fatal single-vehicle wreck that killed a 23-year-old Las Vegas man early Saturday, according to Metro Police.

Officers were called shortly after 3 a.m. to Jones Boulevard, south of Transverse Drive near Charleston Boulevard, police said.

The man was speeding on northbound Jones in a 2000 GMC Sonoma pickup truck when he lost control approaching an S-curve, police said.

The truck ran over a raised center median, ran off the road, drove over landscape, boulders and trees before it flipped, ejecting the man, police said.

The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene, police said.

Preliminary reports that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, police said.

This is the 55th traffic-related fatality in Metro Police’s jurisdiction for 2016. The crash remains under investigation.
