2 power poles fall in central valley, setting truck on fire

Two power poles toppled at a central valley intersection Monday, setting a truck on fire, shutting down traffic and temporarily forcing residents to stay inside.

The Clark County Fire Department responded at West Reno Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard, where two power poles were lying on the north side of Reno, just before 4 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Blackmon said. The lines were active when they fell, and a truck struck by the lines caught fire.

NV Energy helped the fire department remove residents from their homes, the release said. Traffic signals at the intersection and a nearby intersection, Tropicana Avenue at Decatur, were out. Reno was closed from Decatur to Cameron Street for more than an hour.

It’s unknown what caused the poles to topple. Blackmon did not immediately respond to questions about how many people were affected by the power outage.
