Body of missing boater recovered in Potomac River

ACCOKEEK, Md. — The body of a 31-year-old man who went missing after jumping into the Potomac River to retrieve a fishing rod has been recovered.

News media outlets report that authorities say they found Bniamin Adel Rastkheez's body on Tuesday near Piscataway Park in Charles County.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say the Falls Church boater was fishing Sunday evening when a fishing rod went overboard and he jumped into the water to try to get it. The area where he went in was about 5- to 10-feet-deep. Two other passengers were also on the boat.

The U.S. Coast Guard said in a news release that Rastkheez was not able to swim back to the boat against the current and he was not wearing a life vest.

Officials say Rastkheez drowned in the river.
