After gunshots rang out, rehabilitation center staffers walked in to a room to find the bodies of an elderly couple in an apparent murder-suicide Wednesday morning, according to Metro Police.

Officers were called shortly after 11:30 a.m. to the one-story center in the 2800 block of Maryland Parkway, near Vegas Valley Drive, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said.

The woman, described as being in her 80s, had been staying there since March, McGrath said. The husband was known to visit every day.

The man walked in Wednesday morning, greeted staffers, went into the woman's room and shot her before turning a firearm on himself, McGrath said.

A patient heard the gunshots and told staff members, who found the couple’s bodies, McGrath said.

An out-of-state family member was en route to Las Vegas to identify the couple.
