Man arrested on DUI count after critical-injury crash

A man was arrested early this morning on a count of DUI after a crash that sent another driver to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Metro Police.

A 19-year-old man was driving a Kia Rondo east on Charleston Boulevard, approaching Fort Apache Road, about 12:30 a.m. when he was hit from behind by a Mercedes-Benz C250, police said.

The driver of the Kia, Francis Manalo of Las Vegas, was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

The driver of the other car, Paul Adams, 45, of Las Vegas tried to leave on foot but was stopped by an off-duty security guard, who held him until Metro officers arrived, police said.

Adams, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, where he faces counts of DUI causing injury or death and felony hit-and-run, police said.
