Drive-by shooting leaves one dead

A man is dead after a drive-by shooting Saturday evening, marking the 100th homicide investigated by Metro Police this year.

Officers responded about 11 p.m. to the 1600 block of Palm Street, near East Wyoming Avenue, to reports of a shooting, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive man on a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Investigation indicates the man was walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by a light-colored, possibly newer model four-door sedan, police said. An occupant of the vehicle fired at him several times, striking him.

The vehicle was last seen traveling east on Olive Street at a high rate of speed, police said.

Anyone with information should call Metro Police at 702-828-3521 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
