Francis Manalo of Las Vegas was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, where he later died, Metro Police said. His cause and manner of death is still being investigated by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m., when Manalo was driving a Kia Rondo east on Charleston Boulevard, approaching Fort Apache Road, and was hit from behind by a Mercedes-Benz C250, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes, 45-year-old Paul Adams, tried to flee the scene on foot but was stopped by an off-duty security guard. Adams sustained minor injuries and was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of DUI causing injury or death and felony hit-and-run, police said.
