Sheriff: Man shoots woman in head; jumps from car

OPELIKA, Ala. — An Alabama sheriff says a man fatally shot a woman while both were in a moving car, then disappeared for hours before authorities captured him.

The Opelika-Auburn News quotes Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones as saying that 21-year-old Larry Bradford Moore was arrested Monday after a lengthy manhunt.

Jones said the group was driving on I-85 early Monday when Moore shot her in the head from the back seat. Jones said at some point, Moore jumped from the car and then onto a passing 18-wheeler. The car he had been riding in struck a guardrail before being struck by another 18-wheeler.

Jones said it wasn't clear whether the shooting was intentional. Lee County sheriff's Capt. Van Jackson said Moore was jailed on a probation violation charge. Jail records don't indicate whether he has an attorney.
